Meet ToAnh Tran
ToAnh is a Full Stack Web Developer with UI/UX emphasis who’s making the Internet an engaging and beautiful place. Her background in training helps her understand how to make things easily understandable to the public. And she comes from a management background, so she's great at coming up with creative solutions. She is the founder of Mil Spouse Coders, she has worked at Wise - Advise and Assist team and she is also a Local Chapter Organizer for Free Code Camp in Sasebo, Japan.
Q: What do you do in your day to day work life?
I coordinate and create computer training path resources for military spouses learning how to code.
Q: What is a cool project you worked on recently?
One of my fun side projects was to create a Python/ Swift iOS food delivery app.
Q: Has WWCode impacted your career? How?
WWC is been instrumental is giving out scholarships that helped me provide more resources to help the military community.
Q: What advice would you give to your colleagues and peers who are 1-2 years behind you in their career?
Don't give up. Keep trying and learn something every day. Find a great group that you like and get support to keep you encouraged.
Q: Have you helped others in the same or similar career path?
I run an organization called MilSpouseCoders. We are helping military spouses all over the globe to learn how to code. We are working on creating supportive tribes so they don't get lost learning in big groups.
Q: What is your favorite technical protip?
Find what tools work for you. Setting up your environment to customize your needs. I use two different text editors based on the projects I am working on. I like brackets for front-end projects and atom for back-end. I don't know why but I found that the right tools like different text editors makes a difference on my productivity.
Q: What excites you most about your career?
Increasing awareness of available tech careers for military spouses.
Q: Why is being technical awesome?
You get to create something new every day.
Q: What is your dream job? Is there anything you are doing to get it?
I'm doing it right now. I'm creating a safe and supportive space for military spouses and families to learn how to code. I hope to be every military base in the next 3-5 years.
Q: What is the biggest misconception that people have about tech?
That you have to be really good at math.
Q: What do you really love to nerd out on?
I enjoy watching sci-fi movies.
